Week commencing 7th December 2020
Hello year 11. If you are at home this week, you will have missed Paper 2 of the English Literature exam and Paper 1 of English Language. Please do not worry as you will be sitting these on your return so you still need to revise for them.
Paper 2 has A Christmas Carol, An Inspector Calls and unseen poetry. You should use the knowledge organisers to refresh your memory and should complete 2 extract questions on each text to practice for the examinations.
For unseen poetry, you should complete 1 practice question. Remember that we have analysed the poems from the anthology and you have been taught to use MITSL (Meaning, Imagery, Tone, Structure and Language). You should annotate the poems given and write about what the poem makes you feel and think and why.
In part 2 of the question, you need to compare the poems. You should compare throughout so you will need to write about both poems in each paragraph of your answer.
Here is a link to the Eduqas student guidance resource for unseen poetry. It gives examples and there are some model answers too: Resource (eduqas.co.uk)
For English Language, you should complete at least 1 practice paper. I have attached one here but there are many more on the Revision section of the English website. This can be accessed here: Saint Bede's Academy English Department - Main page (weebly.com)
If you need any help, advice or support, as always you can email me.

This week we will continue revising for the mock exams. The Paper 2 English Language revision materials can be found here: Language Paper 2 - Saint Bede's Academy English Department (weebly.com)
You can also find Romeo and Juliet revision materials here: Romeo and Juliet - Saint Bede's Academy English Department (weebly.com)
And, anthology poetry revision here: Poetry anthology - Saint Bede's Academy English Department (weebly.com)
You should make sure that your revision is active... You could read, cover, write everything you can remember, uncover and check. You should complete at least one practice question for each section of the examinations so that you practice using what you have learnt to answer a question.
Remember that the longer questions on English Language and the Literature questions need a PETER response and for poetry you should use MITSL Meaning, Imagery, Tone, Structure (Terminology) Language (Terminology).
I have attached some revision materials from the lessons that we studied which will help you to remember quotations - work through the poetry PowerPoints and try the memory activities then revisit them a few days later and again just before the exam.
I have also attached extract analysis for Romeo and Juliet - you should complete as many of these as possible in note form - they will test your knowledge of the text and help you to pick out language and structural features to analyse.
