Week beginning 12th October 2020
This week, we are finishing looking at Gulliver's Travels and The Time Machine and will spend a lesson writing the pre-assessment task. Take up to 60 minutes and answer the two questions on slide 11. Remember to use PEA paragraphs. If you can, type your answers and email me your work to assess.
We will then move on to lesson 9 where you will need to work through the power point and complete the tasks on Pride and Prejudice.
NB We lose our full lesson to PSHCE this week so will only be able to start lesson 9.

Week beginning 19th October 2020
We will start with an extract from Wuthering Heights and explore the gothic elements of this novel. Then, we'll move into the twentieth century and explore how Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby reflected the time in which it was set. This is followed by an extract from A Farewell to Arms and Hemingway's presentation of war.

Week beginning 4th November 2020
This week, we're starting to read Heroes by Robert Cormier. You can find a copy of the novel here: http://onlinereadfreenovel.com/robert-cormier/47557-heroes.html
1. Read chapter one and make a list of everything we learn about Francis. Use quotations where you can.
2. Read chapter 2. What type of person is Nicole? Find evidence to show she is attractive, friendly, shy, fun and quiet. Write five PEA paragraphs for each. Here's an example: Nicole is attractive. ‘the most beautiful girl ..small and slender, with shining black hair.’ She stands out from the crowd, pretty and delicate. Francis thinks she is wonderful. Now write the other four.
Finish your week by reading chapter 3.

This week we are continuing with the novel ‘Heroes’.
We’ll start by read chapter 7 and developing our knowledge of Larry LaSalle. Follow the powerpoint and complete the work, finally summarising whether we think (at this stage) Larry is a hero or a villain.
Then, we’ll read chapters 8 and 9, considering what a hero is and how well Cormier represents this. Again, read through the powerpoints and complete the work detailed there, ending with the diary entry.
Finally, we’ll read chapter 10 and consider the effects of war on Francis.
