You should spend 3 hours working on English Literature and 1 hour working on English Language.

This week we are studying The Soldier by Rupert Brooke and Mametz Wood Please read through the slides carefully, follow the instructions and complete all of the tasks.

Hello Year 10. This week we will be studying Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen.
You should also complete the 3rd homework task from the homework booklet. You will find a copy that you can download on the previous page.

Hello Year 10. This week we will be studying Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen.
- Read the poem and work through the tasks on slides 3-6.
- Context – read slide 7 and 8 and make notes on context and on the poet.
- Click the link on slide 7 and watch the clip. Make notes about the poem.
- Annotate the poem for structure. Use the notes on slide 9 to help you.
- Complete the activities on slides 10-13. Write answers to each of the questions on these slides. You should write at least 1 paragraph for each and add annotations to your copy of the poem as well.
- Use slide 14 and analyse the poem using S.M.I.L.E. Write your answer in full. Make sure that you select, break down and explore the effects of quotations in full.
- Complete the task on slide 15. This is a practice exam question. You should make sure that the first sentence of each of your paragraphs clearly links to the question and that you select quotations carefully so that they prove what the mood and tone is and you explain how it 9is created. (There is an example on slide 16. Use this style of writing in your own answer).
- Select and complete 3 challenge tasks from slide 17.
You should also complete the 3rd homework task from the homework booklet. You will find a copy that you can download on the previous page.

Make an A4 sized mind map/summary for each War poem:
Mametz Wood / The Soldier / A Wife in London / Manhunt / Dulce Et Decorum Est.
For each poem you should make notes and write quotes to show the key points for S.M.I.L.E. Structure/Meaning/Imagery/Language/Effect.
If you do not have your books with you, use the internet to search for the poems. There are some good explanations for each poem on youtube.

Hello Year 10. This week we will focusing on English Literature and will be completing the work on love poems. I have attached the PPTs of all of the love poems below so that if you missed any during the last few lessons or if you are absent this week, you can catch up.

This week we will be reinforcing our understanding of Staves 1 and 2 by looking at some of the key themes in these Staves – Ghosts, Christianity and how the past can influence the future.
You will need to open the PDF copy of the text so that you can collect quotations.
You should read the worksheets that are attached and complete all of the tasks in full.
You should also finish Stave 2 and read Stave 3
You can either email your work to me or print it and glue it into your exercise book when you return.

This week we are continuing with our study of A Christmas Carol.
Please make sure that you completed all tasks from week commencing 9th November and if not, please complete those first.
I have attached a copy of the full text and you should make sure that you have read up to the end of Stave 3.
You should complete the extract analysis task based on the description of the Ghost of Christmas Present in Stave 3. How does Dickens present the Ghost of Christmas present.
You also need to complete tasks 1 and 2 in the wider reading tasks booklet.

Hello year 10, this week we will be looking at Stave 4 for English Literature and practising reading skills for English Language. There are 3 tasks below because you should spend some time reading Stave 4 first.
You will need to download a copy of the novel from week commencing 23rd November (scroll up).
You should read Stave 4 in full.
When you have read the full stave, complete the extract analysis activities below.

2. Scrooge's attitude.
3. Complete the English Language task based on an excerpt from The Flowers by Alice Walker.

This week, you should finish reading the text - Stave 5. You should collect at least 10 quotations showing how Scrooge has changed and how the mood and atmosphere is different to that which we saw in the earlier staves.
Make a series of mind maps showing the main events from each Stave and collect at least 4 quotations from each stave or for each character/theme that show the main ideas. There are some examples below. You can organise them by themes, characters or staves.
Complete the practice extract and essay question making sure that you analyse the extract and refer to language and structure. Also, use quotations from the wider text in part 2 of the question.
